The replica Pasha black is a copy of the Cartier Pasha de Cartier with a black dial. Cartier launched the Pasha in 1985. Gerald Genta designed it. Cartier redesigned the line in 2020. The Grille version adds a hinged metal grid. Older references, including the Pasha C and the 38 mm Pasha, used black dials with different numeral fonts.

Replicas copy the dial in two ways: pad-printed on a flat brass base, or sunray-brushed with applied markers. The brushed type costs more and shows a wider range of tone as light moves across it. On cheap copies the Roman numerals are too thick, and the line of text above 6 sits off center.

Movements

The real Pasha 41 mm runs the Cartier 1847 MC, an in-house automatic. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and holds about 40 hours of power reserve. The chronograph uses the 1904-CH MC.

Replicas use four common movements:

  1. Quartz. Thin, no rotor, the second hand ticks once per second.
  2. Miyota 9015 or a similar Japanese automatic. 28,800 vph, about 42 hours of reserve.
  3. ETA 2824 or a Chinese clone of it. 28,800 vph, about 38 hours.
  4. A decorated automatic with a rotor engraved to look like the 1847 MC.

Case, crystal, and strap

  • Case: 316L stainless steel on almost all copies. Rose gold plated versions exist.
  • Crystal: sapphire with an anti-reflective coating on better copies, mineral glass on cheaper ones.
  • Caseback: solid engraved or sapphire exhibition. Some real 41 mm references use a sapphire back.
  • Strap: leather with a deployant clasp, or a steel bracelet with a quick-release system.

Points to check before buying

  • Crown chain. It should hang from the cap and sit flat against the case.
  • Case thickness. A quartz copy runs 1 mm to 2 mm thinner than the real watch.
  • Dial print. Check numeral alignment and the spacing of the brand name under 12.
  • Lug screws. They should sit flush, not proud of the bars.
  • Date wheel. The font should match the numerals on the dial.
